A new leak has claimed that there will be a new "Metroid" game called "Metroid Prime 5."
The leak goes on to claim that the title is set to come to the Nintendo Switch 2 soon.
'Metroid Prime 5' Leak Claims It Is Now In the Works
Nintendo insider Nash Weedle shared on X that in late May, he received confirmation that "Metroid Prime 5" is in development, despite expectations that the series might go dormant again following the underwhelming reception of "Metroid Prime 4: Beyond."
The post also claims that development on "Metroid Prime 5" actually began during the development of "Metroid Prime 4," suggesting that Nintendo is confident enough in the "Metroid" franchise.
However, Nash Weedle stopped short of sharing more information in this latest announcement but mentioned that the developers behind the original "Metroid" trilogy, Retro Studios, are attached to the project.
It was also revealed that the company has begun hiring for the project, which further supports the claims.

'Metroid Prime 5' Is Coming to Switch 2
According to ComicBook Gaming, the target platform for this new game from the series will be none other than Nintendo's Switch 2 console.
It is known that "Metroid Prime 4: Beyond" launched on Switch 2 last year, and with the original Switch now firmly in its end-of-life phase, the game will arrive on Nintendo's newest console exclusively.
As per the report, "Metroid Prime 4: Beyond" did not fare well and saw low-performing sales in the market. However, it was not able to match its predecessor's critical acclaim, with the latest game earning a Metacritic score of 79.
That context makes the timing of a follow-up surprising, but it also suggests Nintendo may be treating Switch 2's growing user base as a fresh opportunity to give the franchise another shot with a wider audience.
When Will 'Metroid Prime 5' Release?
"Metroid Prime 4" took 19 years to arrive after "Metroid Prime 3: Corruption," a gap that stands as one of the longest between numbered entries in any major Nintendo franchise.
That extended absence was driven by a combination of development struggles, team changes, and the series' persistent challenge of finding a wide enough audience to justify the resources required.
Many had assumed the series was dead, or at the very least heading back into a long dormancy, after "Metroid Prime 4: Beyond" underperformed both commercially and critically for the first time in series history.
However, the latest leak suggests that the franchise may be getting another chance to redeem itself with "Metroid Prime 5." Should this happen as report, it could signify a massive change of approach to the franchise from Nintendo, focusing on the delivery of their sci-fi action RPG to the modern gaming experience.
There is still no official confirmation regarding "Metroid Prime 5" as of press time.
