Star Fox Zero Delay Rumors: Another Delay? Don’t Believe It… Yet

Star Fox Zero delay rumors are circling the Internet like vultures today. No, not the delay from November until the game’s current release date, April 22, 2015. Internet tales tell that the game may have been delayed again, but it’s only based on one source, a French retailer. Every other retailer out there is sticking to the original April 22, though, so I wouldn’t worry too much.

Star Fox Zero Release Date Delayed Again? Not Likely

The rumors about a second Star Fox Zero delay all started when WCCF Tech noticed that Micromania, a French retailer, had changed the game’s release date from April 22 to July 15, with no other explanation given. As the site pointed out, Micromania has broken some release date news for other games and systems in the past, and the July 15 date falls on a Friday, the traditional date for game releases in the Western reaches of the Old World, so it wasn’t inherently ridiculous. But the site did note carefully, to its credit, that this was far from a sure thing, and could just as easily have been a blip or error.

Other sites, though, have been far quicker to jump on the Star Fox Zero rumor bandwagon. You can find lots of stories right now about how the game has been delayed again, and sure, most of them include a caveat at some point that maybe, just maybe, it’s not official yet. But they bury the lede, as we journalist-types say.

Truth is, there is very little evidence for a Star Fox Zero release date delay to July at this point. One of many hundreds of major retailers has listed a change in the date, for reasons entirely unknown; everybody else is still sticking to their April 22 guns. And while it’s hardly rare for Nintendo to push a game back an extra few months, the company is almost always the one to break the news to us, not retailers. Nintendo runs a tight ship.

So don’t believe that Star Fox Zero has been delayed again. It isn’t impossible; maybe Micromania knows something the rest of us don’t. But we need more evidence before we draw any further conclusions, and that evidence can only come from Nintendo. Until or unless that arrives, I’ll assume we’re getting Star Fox Zero as planned, on April 22.
