Exciting changes have arrived in The Sims 4. The Neighborhood Stories feature is getting new additions. One of these is the life changes for all Neighbor Sims. This should allow for some interesting and autonomous events.

To immediately dive into things, the changes now allow Neighbor Sims to:

  • Adopt young Sims into their household. These are aged between infants and children.
  • Become pregnant with their significant other, and eventually deliver.
    • This is more likely to happen to Family-Oriented Sims and less likely on Noncommittal Sims.
    • If a Sim or their SO Hates Children, they won’t do this.
  • Some Sims may choose to adopt a dog or cat.
    • Requires The Sims 4 Cats and Dogs.
  • Join and leave careers.
    • Sim Traits heavily influence these decisions.
    • Elder Sims may decide to retire.
  • Households can move into and out of lots.
  • Die in different kinds of accidents, depending on risk factors such as Age, Traits, and Career.

An important part of the Neighborhood Stories System is the set of new gameplay controls that allow players to tune which life changes Neighbor Sims can and cannot have. It basically begins in the Manage Households panel where players can choose how the system affects their game.

The first is independent configurations for My Households vs. Other Households. For each group of households in a particular tab, players can choose to enable or disable each type of life change and even disallow all Neighborhood Stories for those households. This allows for a fast and easy way to decide what happens to played households in My Households, versus Other Households out in the world. By default, Neighborhood Stories is enabled for Other Households and disabled for My Households.

There are also household-specific configurations that give players more control. Each household has its own configuration and allows players to customize life changes that make sense to that household’s storyline.
