At San Diego Comic-Con we got two videos from the Rick and Morty team, both animatics. One shows a clip from an upcoming Season 3 episode of Rick and Morty where Rick gets turned into a pickle. The other’s a different beast entirely: an 11-minute court transcript dramatic reading, with Morty standing in for the judge and Rick the defendant. It’s profane, hilarious and (sadly) real. But since the Rick and Morty animators are presumably busy with creating the actual Season 3 episodes, the courtroom transcript performed by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland (who voices both characters) was accompanied with little more than black and white sketches.

It looked liked this:

So did the actual animatic clip from a Season 3 episode:

That all changed Wednesday, when a dedicated fan project, helmed by Tiarawhy, released its fully animated version of the clip:

They even added an after-credits sequence!

But beyond the vibrant color and Rick and Morty -worthy animation, this new version of the Comic-Con clip includes several nods to Futurama. Look out for the Grand Midwife of Amphibios 9 and a brain slug from the Spleef Nebula.

While the wait for Rick and Morty Season 3 has been long, it’s helped that both the actual Rick and Morty team and dedicated fans have kept the new material coming in the interim months. While we don’t yet have an exact release date for Rick and Morty Season 3, it’s expected to premiere before the end of this year.
