The map for a possible Red Dead Redemption 2 may have leaked online. Before you go shouting from the rooftops about a Red Dead Redemption sequel, this map looks suspect at best.

As we can see from the image above, leaked courtesy of a thread on NeoGAF, the map is a multi-colored… thing. We can see many area names, paths for railroads and trails and even locations for towns and other important landmarks.

If this map is for the new Red Dead game, it will be in almost the same location as Red Dead Redemption was set. In the lower left corner of the map, we see two areas: Tall Trees and Great Plains. Those areas served as a northern border in Red Dead Redemption. Revisiting the same locations could mean tie-ins to the stories we’ve already experienced in earlier Red Dead games.

Unfortunately there are also many discrepancies that make this map look fake. One of the locations found is called New Bordeaux. This happens to be the location for Mafia 3 . It’s possible both games are using the same name for locations, but that’s pretty specific. The water next to the map is also significantly changed compared to the water found on the Red Dead Redemption map. There’s much more of it, and the lake’s shores have greatly extended northward.

Of course, this is all speculation. We’ve heard many rumblings and rumors of a new Red Dead game, but have seen no official announcements. This map could be a real leak, or it could be another fake hoax made to get gamers excited over nothing.

So what do you think? Are you hopeful this is the real map to a new Red Dead game? Do you think it’s a fake? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
