'Pokemon Legends: Z-A' Guide: Best Shiny Pokemon to Catch in 'Mega Dimension' DLC

Catching them in the early parts of the DLC will make your progress faster.

Shiny hunting in "Pokémon Legends: Z-A" becomes significantly easier once you unlock the Shiny Charm, but the Mega Dimension DLC introduces even more efficient systems.

Mechanics like donuts and Hyperspace Wild Zones are new to us, but we can dramatically increase encounter rates and reduce grinding time, making shiny hunting more consistent and rewarding.

So far, what's the best Shiny Pokemon you can get as soon as possible?

The Mega Dimension DLC adds two major systems that improve shiny hunting efficiency:

Donuts (Shiny Encounter Buffs)

Similar to sandwich mechanics in previous titles, donuts provide temporary buffs that increase shiny encounter rates. By using specific recipes, players can tailor boosts to specific Pokémon types or spawn conditions.

Hyperspace Wild Zones (High-Density Spawns)

Hyperspace Wild Zones dramatically increase spawn density by grouping multiple Pokémon species in tight areas. Typically, 3–6 Pokémon spawn in compact clusters, allowing rapid encounter checks.

With this, there are faster shiny checks per minute and easy respawn loops by leaving and re-entering areas. It's also noteworthy to include the reduced travel time between encounters and higher overall spawn consistency.

Together, these systems create a much more efficient shiny hunting loop in "Pokémon Legends: Z-A."

Skarmory: Fast Multi-Spawn Shiny Farming

Skarmory is one of the best examples of how Hyperspace Wild Zones improve shiny hunting.

Previously, Skarmory was a slow and frustrating hunt due to limited single-spawn locations and interference from nearby aggressive Pokémon. In the DLC, it now appears in groups of five or more, significantly increasing encounter speed.

Shiny Differences

  • Rusty coloration in the body.
  • Wing primaries changed from red to green.
  • While its Mega form looks golden yellow, its Shiny form, when Mega Evolved, closely resembles the Shiny counterpart of the regular variant.

Galarian Yamask: Easy-to-Spot Shiny with Strong Utility

Galarian Yamask is one of the most rewarding shiny hunts due to its clear visual differences.

Shiny Differences

  • Body shifts from dull gray to bright white.
  • Eye color changes to green.
  • Evolution (Runerigus) retains strong visual contrast.

Tinkatink: Subtle but Rewarding Shiny Hunt

Tinkatink is more challenging due to its extremely subtle shiny difference.

Shiny Differences

  • Body color remains mostly unchanged.
  • Hammer shifts to a deeper bronze tone.

Because the change is so minor, careful observation is required during hunts.
