Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Coming Out Later this Year

A new game.
A new game. The Pokémon Company

New Pokémon games are scheduled to be released sometime in late 2022. These are Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet - exclusive for Nintendo Switch. This was announced by The Pokémon Company during a special Pokémon Presents video presentation on Pokémon Day.

This is the second set of games to be released this year after Pokémon Legends: Arceus. That game was released exclusively as well for Switch.

Some of you are probably wondering if these two games are offering something new. It looks like trainers get to explore an open world where different towns have no borders and blend seamlessly with the wilderness. Expect to see Pokémon everywhere, from the skies to the seas, and even the streets.

Trainers start their adventure in the game by taking on the role of one of the main characters. They start wearing different outfits based on the game they are playing. They also get to choose either of these Pokémon as their first partner:

  • Sprigatito
    • Category: Grass Cat Pokémon
    • Height: 1′4″
    • Weight: 9 lbs.
    • Type: Grass
    • Ability: Overgrow
    • The capricious, attention-seeking Grass Cat Pokémon.
  • Fuecoco
    • Category: Fire Croc Pokémon
    • Height: 1′4″
    • Weight: 21.6 lbs.
    • Type: Fire
    • Ability: Blaze
    • The laid-back Fire Croc Pokémon that does things at its own pace.
  • Quaxly
    • Category: Duckling Pokémon
    • Height: 1′8″
    • Weight: 13.4 lbs.
    • Type: Water
    • Ability: Torrent
    • The earnest and tidy Duckling Pokémon.

In a statement, The Pokémon Company President and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara shared that trainers once again get to start on an epic journey not only of discovery but also of exploration. He added that these two new games are going to offer an adventure unlike any other.
