'Pokémon Legends Z-A' Leak Confirms Fossil Pokémon Comeback, But Only a Few Make the Cut

Will your favorite fossil Pokemon be playable in Oct. 16?

The Pokémon Company just made the official confirmation that "Pokémon Legends Z-A" will bring back a nostalgic part of the game fans have long missed since the early generations: Fossil Pokémon.

The most recent trailer brings back the old mechanism introduced originally in the first Kanto region and recently featured as a complete element in Pokémon Sword and Shield back in 2019.

With the release date of "Pokémon Legends Z-A" approaching, fans can't help but think of new updates in the game. The latest official trailer by The Pokémon Company Japan revealed a few highly anticipated features, including the return of Fossil Pokémon.

In the latest trailer, a young trainer is also depicted interacting with Amaura, an adorable prehistoric Pokémon that evolves from the Sail Fossil. Another scene features Aurorus, Amaura's evolution, in battle with the ferocious Salamence. This visual confirmation is enough to convince fans that Fossil Pokémon are coming. There's no record presence of such species since "Pokémon Scarlet and Violet" in 2022.

The Fossil mechanic has been a popular favorite since the first "Pokémon Red and Blue," letting players bring back ancient Pokémon from unique Fossil items. Although "Pokémon Legends: Arceus" had Fossil Pokémon available only in restricted Space-Time Rifts, "Z-A" will allegedly bring them back in a central gameplay element, a first in years.

Leaked Pokédex Reveals Fossil Pokémon Lineup

Fueling the anticipation was an early "Pokémon Legends Z-A" Pokédex leak that appeared online last week. According to Vice, it shows what prehistoric species will be in the game. Although Game Freak has not officially announced the list, the leak is consistent with earlier correct insider details, making it very reliable among fans.

Based on the leaked information, five Fossil Pokémon will initially be included in the base game, but more might be on the way in the speculated Mega Dimension DLC. Here is the current list of leaked and confirmed Fossil Pokémon:

  • Aerodactyl - (Gen 1) Resurrected from Old Amber
  • Tyrunt - (Gen 6) Resurrected from Jaw Fossil
  • Amaura - (Gen 6) Resurrected from Sail Fossil
  • Tyrantrum - Tyrunt evolution
  • Aurorus - Amaura evolution

It will be more interesting if we get new Fossil Pokémon species, but knowing Nintendo, they might hide it behind the paywall, especially if they are debuting Pokémon.
