'Pokémon Scarlet and Violet' Get a 60FPS Glow-Up on Nintendo Switch 2: Is It Finally Playable Without Glitches?

What a handsome-looking Pokemon game on Switch 2.

Nintendo just provided fans with a sneak peek of "Pokémon Scarlet and Violet" on the future Switch 2, and the contrast is evident right away.

In a fresh 30-second teaser shared through Nintendo Today! app, the classic RPG glides at 60 frames per second, a huge improvement over the original Switch's performance.

Smoother Gameplay and Sharper Visuals at 60FPS

As spotted by IGN, the short footage promotes the game's protagonist's traversal of the world and gives a better glimpse of Mesagoza and the general vicinity. Though lasting just under a minute, the video attests that playing the game at 60FPS does away with most of the visual stutters and performance setbacks that marred the initial release.

"Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet" is one of the few games that will receive a free Switch 2 upgrade.

Bye to the jolting pop-ins and vanishing characters that had gamers frustrated on day one. Today, more Pokémon crowd the screen at farther distances, creating the world with a fuller, more immersive appearance. Mesagoza's city center, in particular, appears livelier and more vibrant than ever.

Fixing Past Performance Issues

"Pokémon Scarlet and Violet" were ambitious but troubled games at the time of their initial release. Fans and critics pointed out gross technical flaws — from busted raid battles to immersion-shattering bugs and constant frame rate plummeting. Although Nintendo did go on to drop several DLCs, many of those issues were still present.

This fresh footage brings promise that the Switch 2's new hardware will resolve some of those still-existing issues, providing not only a graphical improvement but also a better, more seamless gameplay experience.

Nintendo Switch 2's Potential for Pokémon Games

That "Pokémon Scarlet and Violet" is performing this strongly on the Switch 2 may be indicative of things to come. The upgrade patch, which will be released on June 5, the same day as the new console, might represent a new beginning for Pokémon games on Nintendo hardware.

Pokémon fans are already focusing on "Pokémon Legends Z-A," which is due out in October. If the performance upgrade of Scarlet and Violet is anything to go by, Z-A could ship with far fewer technical issues and a refined presentation that actually does the franchise justice.

What Redditors of 'Pokemon S&V' Running at 60FPS

In a separate Reddit thread, some users shared different sentiments about the newest Pokémon game running at 60FPS. One user said that it "feels oddly uncanny" to see the game running at such a framerate.

"I hope GameFreak can stay ahead of this, and we don't end up with 20 fps Pokemon again for the next gen," a Redditor wrote.

"I really hope they go back and create a patch for Legends Arceus, SWSH, and Let's Go, but I'm not counting on it," another user suggested.

"I'm probably gonna start a brand new playthrough if this is the new reality. I logged 200 hours on Violet a long time ago, but I accidentally lost that save file due to getting a new switch. Merp," another avid Pokémon fan commented.
