Having a hard time keeping your gym from getting taken over? Pokémon Go starts off as a friendly app for catching Pokémon, but once players hit level 5 and select a team, the gloves are off. It's time to make your 'mon stronger and take what's yours, and to do that, you'll need candy and Stardust.

Firstly, there are two parameters that measure your Pokémon's power. HP, or Hit Point stat, determines how much damage your 'mon can endure before fainting. Combat Power, or Combat points, determine how much damage your Pokémon can inflict. As your trainer level increases, the CP of Pokémon that you encounter increases as well.

Secondly, there are two ways to make your Pokémon stronger. The first method is to evolve your little dude. To do so will require a set amount of candy that will vary from Pokémon to Pokémon. If your Pokémon is already evolved, then the next step will be to feed your 'mon some steroids... er, Stardust.

The quickest way to accumulate Stardust is also the most straightforward as far as game objectives go – catch more Pokémon. If there's a specific Pokémon that you're desperate to make stronger, say a flying type to take care of a Pinsir, then your best bet would be to catch as many of a specific Pokémon as possible. Each capture equals to meager portions of candy, but a consistent 100 Stardust. But if you're able to collect Stardust along with the right candy simultaneously, then you won't be wasting any time.

Furthermore, set a lure at a location that seems to feature the Pokémon you're looking for. While the lure lasts for just 30 minutes, it will accelerate the amount of Pokémon that will appear. Double up with incense, which will draw Pokémon attention even when you're moving around.

Finally, for the players defending a gym that wish to make their Pokémon even stronger, every successful defense from a challenger will earn Stardust and PokeCoins. A bonus will also be earned every 20 hours a gym remains under your control. I won't sugarcoat it; it won't be easy, but it's very effective.

Good luck out there!
