The Switch has revolutionized handheld gaming experiences, and it may not be a surprise that rivals may try to emulate it.

A new rumor regarding Sony's PlayStation 6 handheld claims that it will also be dockable, following Nintendo's footsteps.

The latest rumor suggests that Sony's next handheld device will not be exactly a standalone like the PSP as it would be a hybrid console that could be portable and connected to displays via a dock.

It is important to note that previous rumors claimed that this portable gaming console that Sony is working on will focus on a standalone device rather than being under the PlayStation 6 series, which is contrary to the new claims.

Earlier rumors have also claimed that this next PlayStation handheld would be released around the same time as the PlayStation 6.

Sony's PS6 Handheld Could Be Dockable, Says Rumor

A recent video by the channel called "Moore's Law Is Dead" shared a new rumor claiming that Sony is working on a new PlayStation 6 handheld console that will also be "dockable" and connected to external displays.

The rumored PS6 handheld is codenamed "Canis," according to the leaker, and the main reason for the docking experience is to have the console run at higher clock speeds.

It is known that both the Nintendo Switch and its successor, the Switch 2, feature a dock system that not only serves as its stand and charging platform, but also outputs a better gaming performance compared to its handheld setup.

It was revealed that with the new Sony console docked, it can run from its handheld mode of 1.2 GHz to around 1.65 GHz, which is quite a significant boost. On the other hand, it was also revealed that through the dock, the PS6 handheld could potentially deliver twice the ray tracing performance that the PlayStation 5 consoles deliver to users in their current iterations.

The leaker then claimed that it would only falter to the PS5 in terms of rasterization performance as it would have slightly lower numbers, again in its docked mode.

Will Sony Copy the Switch System In Its Next Handheld?

Based on the leak from Moore's Law Is Dead, Sony is taking a page from Nintendo Switch's hybrid setup in its quest to deliver a new handheld gaming device for its next-generation console platform.

This new leak from the YouTube channel presents a new take on Sony's quest to get back into the handheld gaming business following the unsuccessful attempt with the PlayStation Portal, a device that was originally meant to only mirror the PS5.

Moore's Law Is Dead then claimed that the PS6 handheld will feature a 6-core AMD Zen 6 Processor paired with RDNA 5 integrated graphics and is set to have 60% more computational power compared to the ROG Xbox Ally.

It was also revealed that the rumored PlayStation 6 handheld would also feature backward compatibility with the PS5 and PS4 games, with the titles of both these consoles also coming to the portable gaming device.

There are still no release dates as well as any official confirmation for the speculated Sony handheld console as of writing.
