Great news for all players. Square Enix

Square Enix announced that Octopath Traveler is now available for both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5. Meanwhile, Octopath Traveler II is now out for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

That's not since Square Enix also said that starting June 5, Xbox Game Pass subscribers get to complete the full Octopath experience on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II are available to download through the Game Pass library.

Extra Battle Mode

With these releases, it means that series is now available on all current consoles as well as the PC. To celebrate this latest milestone, Team Asano revealed in a statement that a free update has been released for Octopath Traveler II. One new feature is known as the "Extra Battle" mode which becomes available once the final boss in the final chapter has been defeated.

"Extra Battle" mode tests the skills of the players against newly added tough opponents which include the main characters of Octopath Traveler. This mode is available on Xbox consoles from launch and added to versions on the PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

The Octopath Traveler series features HD-2D graphics along with a fusion of retro pixel art and 3DCG. Since the launch of the first title, the series has sold more than four million copies around the world. It also popularized the unique HD-2D art style which offers a combination of 2D characters designs in beautiful 3D worlds. The two games offer players a standalone experience that's set in different worlds with eight unique protagonists, each one having their own stories to explore and Path Actions to use. Players get to go on a grand adventure and steer their own journey, depending on whom they choose to play as.

The first title in the series was released in 2018. The second one took a while with Octopath Traveler II coming out in 2023. As mentioned, the first game made the unique HD-2D art style popular. The second one meanwhile took the evolution of the game system and the HD-2D graphics even higher.
