The Nintendo Switch 2 is coming soon, and it will come with a new feature that will optimize charging. Instead of having the console charge to full whenever docked or using USB-C, users now have an option to stop the battery charging when it reaches 90%.

It is similar to what smartphones offer, like Apple's iPhone, which offers Charging Limit options, as well as Android devices like those from Samsung, Google, Oppo, OnePlus, and more.

Nintendo Switch 2 to Stop Charging at 90 Percent

A new feature for the Switch 2 was unveiled by Nintendo via Nintendo Today! News app (via Engadget). Users can now turn on a battery optimization feature that can be found on the console.

The feature, called "Stop Charging Around 90%," is straightforward, and it will prevent the console from charging the battery further than 90%.

It was revealed by Nintendo that this would help keep the console's battery in tip-top shape and avoid the need to have it replaced in several months or years. Users would have the option to turn this feature on or off via the settings of the console.

With this, users would have to give up the extra 10% of charge that will have them reach a full battery if this option is turned on, but the good thing about it is it tries to help avoid a shorter life for the power cell.

It is known that lithium batteries have the tendency to degrade when kept in full charge, and this could potentially lead to massive problems not only on charging, but also on the console's performance.

No More Battery Degradation for Switch 2

The goal of this new feature for the Switch 2 is to avoid battery degradation for the next-gen console when it arrives, and users who choose to turn this on could possibly see better battery life for their devices in the long run. According to Culture Crave, Nintendo have already demonstrated this feature with a video, showing off where to find the feature once the device arrives.

Users only need to head to the console's System Settings and scroll down to "System." After choosing this, users need to also scroll down until they find the "Stop Charging Around 90%" option, and either tap or click on the slider to turn on.

While this is optional, it has already worked wonders for smartphones who have this feature available for users to turn on or off, as it could potentially prolong a device's battery life and prevent it from being fully charged.

For the Switch 2, it would be beneficial not only to users who play it in its console form, but also to those that are heavy dock users that keep the console connected to power at all times.
