The Nintendo Switch 2 is already set for a release this summer, but there is still massive uncertainty behind the console not because of limited stocks or availability, but because of a potential price increase.

Nintendo hails from Japan and manufactures its consoles in its home country and Vietnam, and both are subject to the reciprocal tariffs of President Donald Trump's administration.

It was previously hinted by Nintendo and its executives that the Trump tariffs have an adverse effect on the video gaming industry, especially for Japanese companies, with a previous delay to pre-orders a testament of it.

Nintendo Switch 2 May Increase Prices Due to Tariffs

A new report by sheds light on another complication that may happen behind the sale of the Switch 2 console, particularly as Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa stated that he is "mindful" of the tariffs' effect.

All imported goods and products coming to America are subject to the reciprocal tariffs from President Trump, and while there have been exemptions made, these are not permanent, and future changes may still have adverse effects.

The tariffs have been implemented only last April, and it already significantly affected imported goods in the country, especially in the gaming industry, with some companies opting to stop the sales of their products in the US altogether.

According to the latest statement from Furukawa, there would be an inevitable price increase for the Switch 2 consoles if the tariffs drastically change.

For now, there are no actual numbers yet that Nintendo or Furukawa have revealed to the industry regarding the price increase for the Switch 2, and that means that the console would continue to be available at its SRP for now. The Switch 2's console-only package already comes at $449, which is more expensive than the original Switch's selling price, and the bundle with "Mario Kart World" is available for $499.

Switch 2 Pre-Orders Already Faced Delays

It is known that during the rowdy pre-order period of the Nintendo Switch 2, which opened last month, the United States market already saw a delay because this was also the time that the tariffs took into effect. Many gamers and fans of the Switch 2 have already aired their complaints against the Trump administration over the tariff significantly affecting the new console's availability.

While the United States eventually saw the Switch 2's pre-orders open, the blame still focused on President Trump for significantly affecting the gaming industry due to the new taxation.

On the other hand, it was previously revealed in an analysis that Nintendo may already be selling the Switch 2 console at a loss in the United States because of the said tariffs. This is despite the apparent price increase of the console compared to the Switch, which was made available in 2017.

For now, there are still no changes to the Switch 2's pricing, and it is good news for all gamers. If this stays the same will depend on Trump and his tariffs.
