Nintendo Brings Light Purple-Light Green Switch 2 Joy-Cons: Are They Worth $100?

Nintendo is giving Switch 2 owners more ways to customize their consoles with two new Joy-Con 2 colors: Light Purple and Light Green.

The newest console accessories are expected to be available starting Feb. 12.

Design and Customization

The new Joy-Cons retain the familiar dark gray shell from previous models but feature vibrant colored accents on the joysticks and connection points. What's more, they are going to be released on the same date as the launch of "Mario Tennis Fever."

This design mirrors the style of the original Joy-Con 2 while adding fresh visual flair. Previously, the only Joy-Con 2 colors were red and blue, included with the console. The addition of Light Purple and Light Green gives players more flexibility to personalize their Switch 2 setup. It's another collectible Joy-Con option for those who are looking for new shades.

Where Can You Get Light Purple/Green Joy-Cons?

Nintendo has priced the new Joy-Con 2 colors at $99.99, the same as the existing red and blue controllers. Pre-orders are now available on Nintendo's official website. While some players may note the premium cost, it aligns with Nintendo's current accessory pricing strategy.

Despite some fluctuations in Switch 2 console sales, the addition of new accessories keeps the brand active in the market.

Enhancing Multiplayer Gameplay

These new colors aren't just aesthetic since they serve a practical purpose. According to GameInformer, distinct Joy-Con colors make it easier to identify players during fast-paced multiplayer games, reducing confusion and improving group play. Collectors and fans who enjoy coordinating their console setups will also appreciate the expanded color options.

Are the New Joy-Cons Really Worth the Price?

For Joy-Con collectors, these are must-buy colors for the new Nintendo Switch 2.

However, GameSpot's Jessica Cogswell disagrees. According to her, the new controllers are "extremely underwhelming" because you won't actually see the colors.

"When using your Switch 2 in handheld mode or with the Joy-Con grip, the strips of color on the inner portion of the controllers are entirely hidden."

Before you purchase these Joy-Cons, make sure to consider this caveat. Aside from that, it lacks the same level of creativity as any previous releases.
