A new update is now live in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. One of the big changes that arrived in Patch v1.0.3 is for siege engines.

This is significant since in the Mount & Blade series, sieges play an important role. That's because the most common way for players to get control of a fief is to besiege it. For Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, the siege system was improved with additional tactics.

Change for Mangonels

What changes have been made? For starters, the minimum firing range of all mangonels have been decreased, letting them shoot closer targets. In addition, it makes higher walls not that detrimental when defending against mangonels.

Here are other changes for mangonels:

  • Regular mangonels with multiple projectiles
    • Number of projectiles increased.
    • Single-hit damage of each stone decreased.
    • Damage area of each projectile decreased.
    • Regular mangonels continue to be effective against troops.
      • They no longer overshadow their fire mangonel counterparts.
  • Fire mangonels
    • The area of effect has been slightly increased.
    • The damage reduction towards the edges of the hit area are increased.
    • Hit damage of a projectile increased.
    • It’s harder to hit enemy engines or formations with them than with regular mangonels.
      • The payout is much better.
      • Not every unit hit by the fire mangonel dies due to the increased damage reduction toward the edges of the hit area.
  • AI targeting behavior of mangonels
    • Mangonels now prioritize battering rams and siege towers when choosing a target.
      • After that, they try to attack clumps of enemies.
    • Fire mangonels now primarily target enemy troops.

Other Siege Engines

Other siege engines tweaked by this patch include:

  • Trebuchets
    • Increased number of projectiles.
    • Decreased single-hit damage of each stone.
    • Decreased damage area of each projectile.
  • Battering Rams and Siege Towers
    • Increased hit points of battering rams and siege towers.
      • This is to compensate for the decreased mangonel minimum range.
  • AI behavior of ranged siege engines
    • The AI now properly leads targets.
    • Improved the overall accuracy calculation.
      • This should result in fewer over or undershooting.
    • Adjusted target boxes of siege towers.
      • Defending mangonels can now target them when they are closer.

Check out what else has been changed in Patch v1.0.3. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
