The LG G5 features a detachable chin area, which allows its battery to slide out. It was intended to be change from devices featuring removable back panels to allow access to the battery. However, the modular components proved difficult to remove and attachable accessories, such which as a wide angle lenses and additional speakers, did not appeal to consumers.

The LG is expected to announce the G6 in late February or early March to coincide with Mobile World Congress, featuring a unibody design inspired by both the LG G5 and the LG V20. Dimensions for the LG G6 are believed to be 148.8 x 72.3 x 8.3mm. Other specs rumored for the device include a 5.3-inch Quad HD display, a USB Type-C port and an all-metal frame with matte and glossy finishes.
