Hearthstone is all set to release an update which adds a lot of new content to the digital card game. For one, the upcoming update is going to introduce a new expansion which is titled Madness at the Darkmoon Faire. It’s scheduled to arrive on November 17 and includes 135 new cards.

The update is also going to make changes to the player progression and rewards system. You can read more about that here. It’s also going to introduce a new mode known as Duels. Today we take a quick look at what this mode is all about.

At its core, Duels is a competitive game mode that’s going to change each season. In this one players choose a Hero, Hero Power, starting Treasure, and build a 15-card starter deck for their collection. They then face off against human opponents in a Dungeon Run-style.

Here’s how it’s actually going to work:

  • When you start a Duels run, you need to choose a Hero, a Hero Power, and starting Treasure.
  • You then need to build a starter deck composed of 15 cards from your Collection and play your first match.
    • For its debut season, Duels is going to include a curated assortment of cards from a number of sets, including:
      • Scholomance Academy
      • One Night in Kharazan
      • Curse of Naxxramas
      • Basic
      • Classic
  • Once the match is over, you get additional health and get to level up your deck by picking one of three sets of cards categorized by theme.
  • Occasionally, you’re going to be able to pick from a selection of three incredibly powerful Treasures.
  • Players win or lose rating based on the result.
  • Your run ends after you win 12 times or lose three times.

Duels: Early Access

For Duels: Early Access, each playable class is going to start with one Hero Power and one Treasure.

Duels is officially launching on November 17 with its transition from Duels: Early Access to Duels: Season One. Once Season One is live, each class is going to have access to two Hero Powers and three Treasures.
