Fortnite update 2.4.0, or 1.40 on PS4, has finally arrived after a short delay. With slight tweaks to building mechanics, new quest types for Save The World and a new gun for Battle Royale, there’s a lot for all players in the community to enjoy. The updated patch notes are fairly similar to the old ones, but there are a few key changes.

  • Fixes for long queue times

  • Minigun weapon: found in Chests and Supply Drops, fires nearly as fast as an SMG and uses light ammo.
  • “Controller Auto Run” option lets players disable Auto Run as necessary
  • 3D Resolution option lets PC and Mac users set a resolution for the world without impacting interface
  • Spectator count now in HUD UI. You can turn it off too.

  • Cozy Campfire added. It heals players in its radius.
  • Context-sensitive menus give you new ways to interact. Schematics and people can be directly added to Collection Book.
  • Expedition Types include People Runs and Trap Runs. These are new ways to get people and Traps.
  • Rewards have a lower power cost
  • Removed Double Llama, Fiver Llama, Six Pack Llama and Niner Llama from rotation
  • Rebalanced ranged weapon ammo

This update arrives amidst a rocky few weeks for the Fortnite community. After extended downtime following last week’s 2.3.0 update, this one was also plagued by similar issues and network frustrations. Performance has been so poor that Epic opted to give players some free currency as compensation.

As good as it is to see the Minigun finally coming to Fortnite, it arrives with a bittersweet reveal for fans. While deploying the patch, Epic also announced via a reddit post that the planned Save The World Valentine’s Day and Spring On events will be delayed by two weeks. The Valentine’s Day update, update 2.5.0, is now expected to release Feb. 14. While not specifically mentioned in the post, we imagine upcoming Battle Royale tweaks might be impacted by the delay as well.

Fortnite update 2.4.0 should be available now across PS4, Xbox One and PC.

What do you think of the Minigun now that you’ve had time to use it? Are you OK with the upcoming Fortnite patch delays? Tell us in the comments section!
