Five Nights At Freddy’s: Sister Location is expected to release this Friday, but Scott Cawthon has said the the game may be delayed due to its dark story.

On the project’s Steam Community forums, Cawthon announced the news. “I wanted to post an announcement that this game might be postponed, and I'm not really sure when it would be released,” he revealed. He then went on to say “there are certain plot elements that are very dark, to the point where I sometimes feel sick. There would be no easy fix to this. I either release it Friday as it is, or I delay it by several months to completely rework the plot into something kid-friendly.” As of posting time, Cawthon admits he’s “unsure what I'm going to do.”

This news will likely come as a surprise to those who have been following Sister Location since its initial reveal in April and trailer debut in May and several character teasers The project has been in development for longer than any game in the Five Nights At Freddy’s series, so it seems strange that its creator would suddenly reach such a major conclusion this far along in the process.

The plot is something that was likely being devised in the early days of 2016, so why would it all of a sudden seem sickening today? Do its events hit too close to home given recent traumatic events like the fatal shooting at Townville Elementary School? Is he simply trolling his fans to get them hyped up for the series’ darkest game to date?

Cawthon has a long history of promoting his games in unconventional ways. Prior to the release of Five Nights At Freddy’s 3 he claimed his servers had been hacked and that a finished product had leaked. In the end it turned out to be a fake demo made by Cawthon himself. With only a few days until Five Nights At Freddy’s: Sister Location’s expected arrival, we’ll learn the truth behind this delay soon.

Five Nights At Freddy’s: Sister Location is anticipated for PC release on Oct. 7. Mobile versions will presumably follow shortly thereafter.

Has Sister Location really been delayed, or is Scott just hyping up the dark plot of the game? Tell us in the comments section!
