Five Nights At Freddy’s was announced for a Warner Bros. movie adaptation some time ago, but there hasn’t been so much as a tease about it for many months. Franchise creator Scott Cawthon recently confirmed, however, that new details may be released soon.

In response to a fan question on the Five Nights At Freddy’s: Sister Location Steam Community forums about the film’s development, Cawthon announced “I'll make a news post about this soon. I know a lot of people are curious about what's happening with it!”

For the hardcore Five Nights At Freddy’s fanbase, curious would be an understatement. At the time the endeavor was first made public Poltergeist remake producer Roy Lee and director Gil Kenan were said to be involved. In fact, Kenan especially pleased audiences with a slew of cryptic Twitter teases that implied research was being done to bring Cawthon’s game to the big screen. In the months to follow, he posted pictures of various animatronic models and possible artifacts designed for the set.

However, beyond that initial hype period, the Five Nights At Freddy’s film has mostly been surrounded by radio silence. In May Cawthon said a script was still being penned, but, now that we’re creeping up on two years since the original reveal, it seems reasonable for franchise devotees to be getting restless. Unfortunately, we won’t know more until Cawthon or a Warner Bros. representative says otherwise.

That being said, with Halloween nearly upon us, not all is lost for the Five Nights At Freddy’s crowd. One week from today is the scheduled release date for Five Nights At Freddy’s: Sister Location. The spinoff game takes players to a new but related establishment with a fresh cast of creepy animatronic enemies to thwart. Cawthon recently called the upcoming game a risk, but he’s hopeful it will pay off.

The original four Five Nights At Freddy’s games are available now on PC and mobile devices.
