Check out the demo now! Square Enix

Good news for those excited about the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI game. A consumer demo for the game is now available for free, launched during the pre-launch celebration yesterday in Los Angeles.

The demo gives fans an early look into the game by featuring the opening prologue. Here, players get to control Clive Rosfield and learn more about his goals and ambitions. They also discover more about the tragic event that sent him to a dangerous and dark path of revenge. Once they complete the prologue, they'll get to try out the special battle demo where they can access various abilities. Of course, any saved progress during the demo can be carried over to the full game once it's released. You can get the demo here.

Aside from the demo, a new trailer titled "ASCENSION" has also been released. It offers a further look into what players can expect in this action RPG. You can watch it below:

Final Fantasy XVI introduces players to a new story set in the Final Fantasy universe in the realm of Valisthea. It's a land blessed by the light of the Mothercrystals but is now seeing the peace falter as the Blight spreads and threatens to destroy the dominions. The fate of the land lies in the mighty summoned beasts known as Eikons and the Dominants, men and women blessed with the ability to call upon these beasts and wield them.

The story follows Clive Rosfield, a warrior given the title "First Shield of Rosaria" and has sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. Clive eventually gets caught up in a great tragedy and vows revenge on the Dark Eikon known only as Ifrit.

The Final Fantasy franchise has delighted generations of gamers and millions of players worldwide for over 35 years. Each main game in the franchise offers a new experience and serves as an ideal entry-point to the series.

Those who want to watch the pre-launch celebration can view the archive of the event livestream on Twitch. Players can also enjoy the short film "Requiem" directed by Diego Contreras which features live actors.

Final Fantasy XVI is launching June 22 on PlayStation 5.
