In Far Cry 6, players take on the role of a guerilla fighter who attempts to end the dictatorship of Antón “El Presidente” Castillo, who rules the fictional Caribbean island of Yara. Like with previous games in the franchise, this one also has players utilize makeshift weapons and vehicles.

Far Cry 6 is set to be released on October 7 this year on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Next-gen versions are also offered for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

It’s still quite a while before the game is released, and fortunately for us, we have a peek at part of the gameplay. In particular, we take a look at some of the ways to become a guerilla fighter.

Now by definition, guerilla warfare is basically part of a small group that’s fighting against a larger force. That means to be successful, one needs to be a well-hidden guerilla warrior. Unlike previous titles, Far Cry 6 operates in different secret camps spread out across Yara. These hidden camps have everything a good guerilla needs to kick off the revolution.

The game also introduces a new concept of stealth where staying out of sight is absolute. As a guerilla fighter, players can still move in plain sight as long as they have their weapons holstered. Having excellent deception skills is also a good option, especially when passing goods through a checkpoint. If that doesn’t work, then there’s always money.

Another new feature in Far Cry 6 is that players are put in a capital city where they operate within an urban environment, which means they must master this modern environment. There are hidden routes all around the city that players can use, and those who want a flashy entrance can opt for the main roads and use something that offers more firepower like tanks.

While players are indeed part of a guerilla group, there’s no guarantee of reinforcements. When that happens then it’s time to find optimal solutions to the problem, and that means using whatever is available. Want to mow down enemies? Then why not go for the motorcycle-engine-powered minigun. Prefer something improvised yet deadly? Then get a nail gun.

It goes without saying that it never hurts to come prepared. The game has a new gear system that not only changes the look of the character but also the way it is played. For instance, a pair of gloves can be handy to put out flames when you catch fire. There are goggles as well that can help anyone snipe better.

So what do you think? Are you ready to take on El Presidente?
