Total War: Shogun 2 – Fall of the Samurai is now officially part of the Tota War Saga family. With this, the game now becomes Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai. Those who get the chance to check this change on Steam can see that there is even a new logo that comes with it.

Total War Saga is known for taking real-time battles and grand strategy and channeling them into an intense flashpoint of history. This allows players to experience and determine the outcome of many pivotal moments in history. Moments that can shape the future of nations.

Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai follows the dramatic fight between traditional Samurai culture and the explosive power of modern weaponry.

The game is set 400 years after the events of Total War: Shogun 2. Players needs to guide ancient Japan to the modern age. America, Britain, and France have arrived on the shores of Japan and are inciting a violent civil war that could tear the country apart.

Specifically, the game drops players into the Boshin War period. The campaign begins in 1864, a period in Japanese history where resentment against the colonial power and influence of the West has been increasing. With Japan starting to industrialize and modernize, the economic and social changes lead to antipathy and militant nationalism towards the Shogunate. Players get the chance to choose a clan that supports either the Imperial throne or the last Shogunate.

The game is not limited to Fall of the Samurai as it also include the DLC faction packs. There are four factions that players can choose:

  • Saga: The Modernizers
  • Obama: The Overseers
  • Tsu: The Betrayers
  • Sendai: The Negotiators

It’s not all Japanese, as the American, British, and French also play an important role. How the players relate to these different foreign powers is important not only to unit recruitment, but also in advancing their technology trees.

Players that have an existing copy of the game are going to receive all DLC as a free gift. However, this does not include the blood pack. For those who don’t have the game, the good news is that it is currently being offered at 75% discount on Steam.
