A bunch of new content is now live in EA Sports F1 22 courtesy of a new update. The highlight is the F2 and the FIA Formula 2 World Championship. There’s also the 14-round season, which includes the F2 Sprint where players can compete against new contenders like Logan Sargeant, Jack Doohan and even the newly crowned Champion, Felipe Drugovich.

In a statement, Senior Director of the F1 Franchise at Codemasters Paul Jeal shared that they've packed many into this new update. He added that there's a lot of new content that gives players the perfect excuse to return to the track.

The Flying Finn is Coming to Town

There’s no question that there is indeed tons of new content for players to be excited about. Besides those, none other than Mika Häkkinen is coming October 17 to the My Team mode as its newest in-game icon. Nicknamed as the “Flying Finn,” he won the back-to-back World Championship in 1998 and 1999. He’s also one of the most respected drivers of his generation. With this, Champions Edition players get the chance to bring old rivalries, especially when racing against other in-game Icons like Michael, considered by Häkkinen himself as his greatest rival.

Other Content

Once the F1 season heads west, all players get free US-inspired content through the in-game mail. Starting October 17, players can get access to the US-inspired Stars and Stripes livery, helmet, race suit, and gloves. There’s also The Griddy podium celebration.

In addition, the dance craze, which took US sports celebrations to a whole new level, makes its way to the game. There are also additional customization items, available today, for players to unlock across 30 Free and VIP tiers of Podium Pass Series 3.

By the way, there’s the McLaren Racing’s Future Mode special livery too, which you can read more here.

Fixes are Here

The new update arrives in the game courtesy of Patch 1.12, which also introduces fixes to issues:

  • ERS increase/decrease buttons were not working in Qualifying sessions
  • Under “Immersive” Safety car, a player would be allowed to pass after briefly overtaking another driver illegally
  • The “Unsafe pit release” option in Multiplayer would force cars to slow incorrectly while leaving the pit lane
  • Cutting the final chicane at Japan doesn't invalidate the next lap in Time Trial
  • Time Trial where “this and next lap invalidated” penalty allowed next lap to be registered on leaderboards without penalty flag

Check out the changes and fixes in Patch 1.12 here.

F1 22 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
