FromSoftware’s magnum-opus Elden Ring was one of the most hyped games of 2022, and for many players, the hype was worth it. It received universal acclaim from both fans and critics. As expected, the game was considered a serious Game of The Year contender, and for good reasons.

The year 2022 is finally over and the majority of GOTY awards by different publications have been given. Thanks to a dedicated bunch of individuals, we know exactly how many awards have FromSoftware’s latest title won, and it’s a lot.

As of writing, Elden Ring has grabbed 331 GOTY awards, followed by God of War Ragnarök with 78 awards. The indie game Immortality won six, and Guerrilla Games' open-world title Horizon Forbidden West won five.

It is safe to say that Elden Ring dominated the video game award scene last year, but its accomplishment doesn’t just stop there. It’s now the most GOTY-awarded game in history after beating The Last of Us Part II record of 322 awards.

Fans should also note that not all publications have given out awards just yet, meaning Elden Ring award count is only going to increase from here on out. Will it hit 350 awards? Time will tell.

The record has been held by multiple critically acclaimed games. TLOU2 held the record for two years, and before that, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt held it for five years. We will see how much time Elden Ring stays on top.

The year 2023 has some strong contenders that can take the crown. Nintendo’s behemoth title, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, is arriving in May and Bethesda’s new IP in 25 years, aka Starfield, is also planned for the first half of this year.

In other news, if you haven’t played Elden Ring, here’s your chance. The game is currently on sale on Steam for only $41.99.

So, what do you think? Do you think Elden Ring deserves these many awards? Which game is your Game of the Year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
