Xbox, Discord Partner to Offer Cheaper Version of Xbox Game Pass to Nitro Subscribers

The free Xbox Game Pass access will be available for Discord Nitro users.

If you're looking for a free Xbox Game Pass and, at the same time, you're a Discord Nitro user, you're in for a surprising benefit. This week, Xbox and Discord announced the newest perk in the form of a special version of Xbox Game Pass at no additional cost.

The collaboration adds a "starter edition" of Game Pass that includes access to more than 50 downloadable Xbox and PC games, along with limited monthly cloud gaming support.

Discord Nitro currently costs $10 per month or $100 annually and already provides premium features such as larger file uploads, HD streaming, custom emojis, and enhanced server personalization tools.

Under the new partnership, Discord confirmed that Nitro pricing will remain unchanged despite the added gaming benefits. Subscribers will gain access to a curated library of popular games, including "Deep Rock Galactic," "Stardew Valley," and "Fallout 4."

The package also includes 10 hours of Xbox cloud gaming each month, allowing users to stream supported titles directly without downloading them onto their devices.

Xbox and Discord Continue Platform Integration

Over the past several years, both companies have gradually integrated their ecosystems to improve communication and social gaming experiences across platforms.

Discord has evolved into one of the largest communication hubs for gamers on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Beyond traditional voice chat and messaging, the platform has expanded into broader gaming functionality through features such as Roll20 integration, which allows tabletop gaming sessions to launch directly within Discord.

Companies Respond to Changing User Expectations

According to Polygon, both Xbox and Discord have faced notable user criticism throughout 2026. Discord recently postponed its controversial age-verification system following backlash from users concerned about privacy and accessibility.

Meanwhile, Xbox adjusted its Game Pass pricing strategy by lowering subscription costs while removing launch-day access for future "Call of Duty" releases from certain plans.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma acknowledged concerns surrounding affordability, stating that Game Pass Ultimate pricing had become too expensive for some players.
