Diablo II Resurrected: Game Gets Review-Bombed Due to Technical Issues

It is almost a week since Blizzard released Diablo II: Resurrected. It is a visual remaster of the classic 90’s action RPG, and developers have added a host of improvements without changing too much of the original. That said, a good portion of the community is not happy with the game, at least in its current state.

Review-Bombed

Users went to Metacritic to voice their frustration. At the time of writing, it has a Metascore of 83 but only a User Score of 4.8 based on 700+ ratings. Apparently, most of the negative reviews have one thing in common: technical issues.

Since its release, many players have experienced constant crashes and other difficulties that prevented them from running the game in the first place. Even though Blizzard is aware of the situation, no resolution has been made yet.

User @wateryjordn said that the game’s servers always go down and that this wouldn’t be an issue had Blizzard kept the option to play via LAN through TCP/IP.

Another user said that while the game looks amazing, pervasive technical problems have bogged it down. They added that many cannot play the game and that paying 40 Euros for something like this is unacceptable. Sure, the company promised the community that they’d fix these bugs, but that hasn’t happened yet.

User @Notmeta compared Resurrected ’s launch to Warcraft III: Reforged. They said that the game should be called “ Diablo II: Refunded” because of all these problems, leaving them unable to play the game even two days after launch.

Warcraft III: Reforged was likely the most atrocious of Blizzard’s remastered projects. It was poorly optimized, the cutscenes didn’t look the same as what was showcased at Blizzcon 2018, and it was just a buggy mess overall. Even after a year or so, the game still has a very low User Score on Metacritic. At least, Diablo II: Resurrected fared better as its user ratings are considerably higher than Reforged.

While the game is unplayable for some, it is not all doom and gloom. There are still others who actually love the remaster. If Blizzard can fix these issues, its rating will likely go up.

But what can you say about this? Have you played Diablo II: Resurrected? If so, are you happy with the current state of the game, or do you think that the company needs to do better?
