Destiny 2: Looks Like Cheaters Returned Even with New Anti-Cheat System

Hackers appeared to have circumvented Destiny 2's new anti-cheat system, following claims of some players that they had bouts against such people recently.

For those who do not know, Bungie has partnered up with BattlEye to thwart hackers from ruining Destiny 2. It is an anti-cheat system implemented in some popular games, including Fortnite and PUBG.

While people may think that the game is safe with BattlEye in place, it seems not the case, at least for some players.

Cheaters Are Back

Redditor @sculolo said they were happy that the new anti-cheat system went online at the start of Season of the Lost because PvP combat was smooth and Trials of Osiris was very accessible.

However, they added that at this point in the season, they came across some people who might be cheating as they were using special names and low-level Steam accounts.

“But now I've started facing again people with 8-9 k/d, lvl1 steam accounts, names like "Guardian####" and all of them with 95+ accuracy on sniper headshots (both in trials and control),” they said.

Another user commented that they also ran into players doing sketchy things in the Crucible’s Control game mode. But they do not have proof that they are indeed using some hacks.

Redditor @Itsbadmmmmkay shared a possible reason why cheaters have become more rampant these days than earlier in the season. They said that Bungie is in an ongoing battle against cheat developers and that solving this dilemma is not as simple as it seems.

They added that the cheaters were likely not confident in using hacks when BattlEye was implemented, but as time passed, they probably found a way to get around it. Hence, @sculolo might have encountered cheaters in the Crucible.

BattlEye is not foolproof. In fact, some people have claimed that it is a weak system because it can't stop hackers from ravaging Rainbow Six Siege.

Still, Bungie may improve their implementation of the new system, and things might change in the future, for better or worse.

What do you think? Have you had bouts with hackers or cheaters in Destiny 2 lately?
