Call Of Duty: WWII has a new class system called Divisions, but developers promise it offers plenty of customization. We'll hear more about multiplayer during E3 2017. Call Of Duty: WWII comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC Nov. 3. Sledgehammer Games/Activision

Call Of Duty: WWII ’s Divisions feature was revealed just ahead of E3 2017, and fans were initially confused about it. On the surface it appeared the game’s five classes would have some rigidity to them, but Sledgehammer’s Michael Condrey tweeted to quell mounting concern.

First and foremost, when one fan said they hoped WWII will offer more customization than Battlefield 1’s class system, Condrey replied “we got you my man.” In a similar vein, when confronted about the worries of pre-set classes, the studio head assured worried fans, “you’ll be fine.”

These quiet confirmations are nice, of course, but they don’t necessarily offer any additional details about how Divisions will work. Condrey stopped short of doing so just days away from a planned E3 multiplayer reveal, but he did add that “Divisions is about truly meaningful choice and playstyle.” As such, combatants will “enlist in the fight, master basic division training [and] become a firearm expert.” He also used the phrase “customize your Divisions” in a separate conversation.

With so many teases made, it would appear even some of the most qualified news sources may have overestimated the ways Divisions will overhaul the game. There’s definately a sense of a more defined class system here, but it may not be as restrictive as other multiplayer titles. Based on the update we’ve received here, Divisions sound like they could lean closer to Black Ops 3’s Specialists than the class selections of Battlefield 1. As long as there are lots of options to customize within each Division, there will be plenty of playstyle choices for gamers to make.

For those who missed our previous introduction to the Divisions feature, it was described as a replacement for the existing create-a-class system where players could choose from one of five iconic World War II divisions with specific training and weapon skills. The revealed divisions are Airborne, Mountain, Infantry, Armored and Expeditionary Force. The feature has been listed as “a fundamentally new way to focus on your multiplayer career.” It’s promised that we’ll hear more about the concept during E3 next week.

Also on the docket for the big convention are full demos and details about the new narrative-based objective mode called War, as well as the game’s new shared social space called Headquarters. Especially since E3 will be open to the public for the first time ever, it makes sense to offer fans a chance to experience the multiplayer modes of Call Of Duty: World War II ahead of its worldwide release this November.

Our last major details about the game arrived during its reveal event in April. During the hour-long stream, we learned that WWII’s single-player campaign will focus on the circumstances of Private “Red” Daniels of the First Infantry Division. During his European theater narrative, he’ll also encounter other playable characters, including a French female operative named Rousseau.

Call Of Duty: WWII comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC Nov. 3.
