SPOILER ALERT! The following will spoil the events of the Boruto manga, if you haven’t read it yet and don’t want to know what happens turn back now.

The chapter begins with Naruto in his office when Shikamaru walks in to tell him how Boruto and the others are doing. Naruto doesn’t look impressed and asks Shikamaru if he came all this way just to tell him that.

Shikamaru says, “of course, because this is important” and informs Naruto that his son made it to the next round and their sons may square off in round 3. When the ninja leaves, Naruto screams “yes!” to himself, proud of his son.

Elsewhere, Naruto and Sasuke meet to discuss the scrolls the Uchiha brought back. Naruto informs him that the encryptors are having a hard time deciphering what the scrolls say. The Hokage asks Sasuke if he’s training his son and Sasuke leaves.

Boruto arrives home and is met by his mother and sister who congratulate him for moving on to the next round. Boruto says he’s tired and goes up to his room without dinner.

The young ninja plops on his bed and looks at the device on his wrist when he hears his door open. He tries to hide it when Naruto walks through to the surprise of Boruto.

Naruto doesn’t know what to say to his son but manages to tell him, “You did well.” Boruto asks him if he came up to his room just to say that, and Naruto responds with “it’s important.” He then tries to give his son a fist bump and says to not let Shikadai beat him.

Boruto says “course not” and he gives his father a fist bump. When Naruto leaves Boruto says he could have just emailed all of that, but secretly the young ninja is happy.

The next day, the third part of the Chunin Exam is underway with Rock Lee proctoring the one-on-one fights and the final match being a three-way battle.

Boruto is first up against Yurui from the Hidden Cloud village. Yurui wields dual katanas as the two get into a close-combat fight. The Cloud ninja, constantly chewing gum, then blows a large bubble to separate the two of them.

Boruto goes to burst it open when it explodes, damaging the young ninja. When Boruto gets up he sees the battlefield filled with the bubbles. He looks up to see his father looking on when he digs into his back ninja bag and pulls out one of the small scrolls for his wrist device.

He activates the device to launch a shuriken that goes around the bubbles and past Yurui before it whirls back toward him and pops the bubble he was chewing in his mouth. The bubble explodes and knocks the ninja out. Boruto is the winner. The crowd cheers for Boruto when Sarada gets up for her match.

Using her monstrous strength, she knocks her opponent into a wall and wins. Mizuki, Shikadai and the Sand ninja come out victorious.

The semifinal match begins with Boruto and Shikadai. Shikadai uses his Shadow Possession Jutsu to try and snare Boruto but the ninja dodges it and fighting using the Hyuga gentle-fist style and shadow clones. Boruto is about to land a blow when Shikadai catches him in his jutsu.

Shikamaru brags to Naruto in the stands how the match is over and Shikadai tells Boruto to forfeit. Boruto, however, fights the jutsu to move his arm enough to pop open the scrolls for his device. Naruto notices it from the stands as shadow clones appear all around Shikadai.

The ninja looks around and gives up so he doesn’t have to bother fighting anymore. Boruto is announced the winner but elsewhere, Sasuke is informed by the Konoha decoders of their findings as he leaves to tell Naruto.

Back on the battlefield, Naruto jumps down when Boruto runs up to his father to give him a fist bump. However, the Hokage grabs his son’s wrist to expose the device.

Elsewhere, the two villains that Sasuke fought in the past chapters fly toward Konoha when they sense Naruto and the Kyuubi.
