After nearly six months in development, developers finally implemented the nifty mod manager in the latest update for Blade & Sorcery.

The Mod Manager

U12, aka the Mod Manager update, has finally brought a much-requested feature since day one of Blade & Sorcery. To put it simply, the mod manager is an interface that presents you with different mods currently available on mod.io.

What’s cool about this new feature is that you can easily install mods using the VR headset itself, no PC required. If you want to install mods the old-fashioned way, you can still do that by dropping the mod folders you’ve downloaded into the game’s streamingassets/mods folder.

It’s important to note that if you’re using PCVR, you cannot see mods specific to Nomad . Conversely, if you play Nomad, you won’t be seeing mods for PCVR. Blade & Sorcery Nomad, for those who are unaware, is a version of the game that’s only available on Meta Quest 2.

So, what are the things that the mod manager can do? Well, here’s a rundown:

  • It will only show you mods for the version of the game you are playing - no more downloading out-of-date mods accidentally.
  • You can toggle mods on and off without uninstalling.
  • It will automatically download any mod prerequisites.
  • If you are subscribed to a mod and the modder updates it, the manager will update it for you to the latest game version.
  • There is a search bar and virtual keyboard.
  • You can filter by tags.
  • There are three main tabs: New (latest mods), Popular (currently trending mods), and Most Downloaded (most popular of all time).
  • You can install/download multiple mods simultaneously.
  • Your manual mods will appear in the mod manager as local mods, so you could still do manually download/install mods and use the mod manager to manage them.

You also have the option of linking your B&S mod manager and mod.io accounts via email so that you can have them synced. This allows you to subscribe to mods on mod.io using a web browser and those will be reflected in the game.

So, what are the mod manager’s limitations at present? All of the mods should be updated for the correct version before you can use them. For example, you cannot use U8 mods if your client’s version is U12.

On top of that, even though it automatically downloads mod prerequisites for you, the mod manager currently does not list mod prerequisites before downloading. The developers may add this in future updates.

So, are you going to use the new mod manager in Blade & Sorcery?
