We all know Batman relies on his gadgets, but what will he have in his utility belt come March 25? So far, we know Batman will sport a Grappling Gun, Batarang, Kryptonite Spear, Grenade Launcher, and Sticky Bombs. Batman will also be equipped with a redesigned Tech Cowl, an armored Batsuit, and a new Batmobile to go up against Superman in Dawn of Justice.

Batman must protect himself from Superman’s supernatural abilities. His Batsuit is his first line of defense. This year, Batman is getting a cutting-edge Tech Cowl. This will enhance his vision, mask his voice, and make it easy to communicate with Alfred. As Batman v. Superman Prop Master Doug Harlocker put it in a recent DC All Access video , ”It’s almost like a helmet for a jet fighter pilot, it incorporates a bunch of technology.”

Batman will also have his beloved, iconic Batarang on deck, which Harlocker says will have more of a presence in this movie than ever before. There is a more lethal aspect, he explains. “It has many different cutting edges, and we wanted it to really be able to stick in anything.”

Harlocker added that when he and Director Zack Snyder asked themselves how Batman should use the Grappling Gun in Dawn of Justice , they decided to redesign the handle. “You need to have a spool of cable, some winding device, a way to cut cable, and to reload. One of the modifications is to create this little return on his handle so that he could use the gun as a hammer.”

The Batmobile also got an upgrade. Here is the official description of Batman’s new wheels, courtesy of Collider, who also captured 36 exclusive high-res images of the redesign at The Licensing Expo in Las Vegas last year.

Single-handedly designed and fabricated in near complete seclusion by The Batman, this infamous pursuit and capture vehicle has earned its reputation as the apex predator on the mean streets of Gotham City. Over powered with an unmatched hybrid of prototype military and civilian performance technologies, this top machine has been estimated to reach speeds of up to 205 MPH. The Batmobile’s imposing defense capabilities, supported by stolen Wayne Industries technologies, have been integrated with the latest in covert military grade armaments, stealth and active protection systems.

Facts:

  • Twin .50 caliber retractable machine gun turret
  • Fully armored
  • Stealth-capable
  • Active Protection Systems/Anti-ballistics
  • 20 ft. long/12 ft. wide
  • 7000 lbs.

At Comic-Con 2015, we also got a few close-ups of Batman’s upgraded Batsuit and gadgets. Batman will also have a Grenade Launcher and Sticky Bombs on hand. Is that some Bat-freeze blaster/fire extinguisher looking thing behind the glass next to the grenade as well? There’s not too much info on some of gadgets, the description simply calls them ‘Bat Gadgets.’ We’ll just have to wait to find out.

The newest addition to his weapon arsenal is a Kryptonite-laced spear to help fight Superman. It’s unclear how Batman obtains this, but it’s pictured briefly in the trailer. When talking to Entertainment Weekly about Superman’s advantages, Snyder added that Batman has to be a “chess player” of sorts and mentions the spear. “ He paces it off. Then, when he throws Superman, the spear is right there. So you’re like, wait a minute, did he [plan] every bit? Did he know every move?” In the comics, Batman used to keep a chunk of Kryptonite in his utility belt, but that was when the two were allies, not enemies. Kryptonite-based weapons have taken many forms, so the idea of Batman using a laced staff is nothing out of the ordinary. But how does Batman acquire the precious gem? Our best guess at this point is Lex Luther. Although one thing is for sure, Batman with Kryptonite makes Batman v. Superman somewhat of a fair fight.
