The release of World of Warcraft Classic is just around the corner and fans are getting more excited than ever. In our previous guides we looked at the different characters that you can play and how their talents and abilities have an impact on gameplay. Today we take a closer look at professions.

In WoW Classic you get to choose from nine primary professions. Your character is allowed to learn up to two of them at the same time. There are also professions where you can attain added specializations from trainers around the world. Characters also have three secondary skills and are allowed to learn all three.

The Primary Professions are Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Herbalism, Leatherworking, Mining, Skinning, and Tailoring. As mentioned, you can choose two professions. The trick is to choose two that work well together. Say you want a profession where you can craft items. Your second profession should be one that allows you to gather materials. So if you want to learn blacksmithing, then it would be good to pair it with mining.

There are three gathering professions, which are:

  • Herbalism
    • Good pairing
      • Alchemy
    • Items Needed:
      • None
  • Mining
    • Good Pairing:
      • Blacksmithing
      • Engineering
    • Items needed:
      • You need a Mining Pick in order to be able to mine a node
      • You also need an anvil in order to smelt raw ore to bars that can be used for recipes
  • Skinning
    • Good Pairing:
      • Leatherworkers
    • Items needed:
      • Skinning Knife

The other six professions are Crafting, and these include:

  • Alchemy

Alchemy is a good option for players that like to conduct raids. This is because this profession allows you craft many of the needed consumables. Alchemy works well with Herbalism.

  • Blacksmithing

If your character typically needs to wear plate armor, then you may need to consider this profession. It gives useful weapons not only for warriors, but even for Paladins. This is often paired with Mining.

  • Enchanting

This profession lets you improve the gear slots of items and even disenchant gear in order to turn it to dust and use it for Enchants. Casters get the most benefit of this profession and it is often paired with Tailoring.

  • Engineering

For many players, engineering is a good choice for those who want to have fun. This gives you access to a number of gadgets that give unique utilities. This profession is good for characters that deal DPS like Hunter. If you're the type who want to always engage in PvP, then this is the profession for you.

  • Leatherworking

This is for those who use Leather and Mail. Skinning is a good pair for Leatherworking.

  • Tailoring

Tailors mainly create cloaks and cloth armor and paired with Enchanting.

Take note that the pairings are not set in stone. You can still choose to have your own pairings.

Let's now look into the secondary professions.

The first is cooking, which ensures that you and your team have a steady supply of food that can restore both health and mana. This profession is good for raiders since it provides well fed stat buffs. In order to Cook, you need Cooking Fire.

Some of the food consumables that you can cook and earn buffs from includes:

  • Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops: 25 Stamina
  • Grilled Squid: Agility
  • Nightfin Soup: Mana Regen
  • Runn Tum Tuber Surprise: Intellect
  • Smoked Desert Dumplings: Strength
  • Spiced Chili Crab: Spirit

The second secondary profession is First Aid. This skill allows you to heal and bandage not only yourself, but also other players. Rogue and Warrior often go for this profession as they have no healing capabilities. That doesn't mean a healer can no longer choose this profession, though.

Fishing is the third and while it is clearly a time-consuming profession, it offers some really good rewards. These are some of the things you need to keep in mind when choosing this profession:

  • You will need a Fishing Pole equipped in order to catch fish.
  • Your success chance at catching fish is reliant on your Fishing skill. Higher level zones will have a higher skill threshold.
  • Fishing in a specific pool will yield a specific type of catch, as opposed to open waters.
  • Some fish are seasonal, while others only appear during the night or day.

Stay tuned for more guides and we hope to tell you everything by the time WoW Classic is released.
