Publisher GungHo Online Entertainment America has just announced that it will be releasing its mecha-based tactics title Volta-X for the PC via Steam. This will accompany the previously announced Nintendo Switch version. Volta-X is expected to release this Summer.

Set in an alternate reality on Earth, Volta-X revolves around a kaiju invasion of the world and what the human race is doing to defend and save itself. It starts off with the enigmatic Dr. V and his new technology – a mecha robot invention called a Volta. These Voltas and their pilots provide much-needed firepower to overcome the kaiju threat and eventually end it in a swift a decisive manner. However, with the kaiju gone and the Voltas still scattered around the world, humanity decided to put these feats of technology to good use by establishing the world-renowned sport of Volta battling.

The game’s premise is the player, being a rookie Volta pilot, is invited to the most prestigious destination for Volta combat – the World Volta Association. It is here that the player will meet multiple friends and rivals, and overcome challenges to rise through the ranks and lay claim to being the best Volta pilot on Earth.

Volta-X is a curious mix of resource management, RPG, turn-based action, and real time combat. Players have at their disposal a crew of pilots, each with their own unique strengths and abilities. The main goal is to keep these pilots’ needs fulfilled so that they perform well during crunch time. This can be done by customizing your base with necessities and other extras. Next is winning fights so that you can upgrade your Voltas’ weaponry and defensive gear. Finally, combat is turn-based in the sense that there are certain phases where you can use only defensive measures or offensive attacks, but there are also instances where you can sneak in other moves.

Multiplayer-wise, the game will have a global league where players can climb the ladder if they prefer that over the single-player campaign experience.

Volta-X will launch for the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam this Summer.
