Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer's Legacy is all set to be launched on May 27 on PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. The game is priced at $24.99 but it’s going to be offered at a 10% discount for a limited time. There’s also a Digital Deluxe Edition available, which not only contains the game but also comes with an art book and the official soundtrack.

The game offers players a beautiful yet challenging procedurally-generated open world. What’s going to happen is that every time players die, their world remains but time passes, and events change the lay of the land. At the end of the quest, players can either succeed and save the world or fail and see everything destroyed. There’s no going around it since even the save games are deleted.

Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer's Legacy was in Early Access for a year. While it’s ready to be officially launched, the development won’t stop. Versions for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S are in the works with a release date to be revealed soon.

Some of the game's key features include:

  • Legacy system
    • The actions of past heroes impact the fortunes of those that follow in their footsteps.
    • Players can use their legacy wisely to give successive adventurers greater hopes of completing their quest.
  • Permadeath in a persistent world
    • When a hero dies, they stay dead.
    • Players can choose to return to the same world with a new adventurer, forearmed with knowledge of what lies ahead.
    • There is also the option to start a new adventure in a completely uncharted world.
  • Generative storytelling
    • The game has no premeditated script.
    • Each adventurer has the same goal which is to destroy the Staff of Yendor.
    • Each hero has their own unique story of the events and encounters that happened along the way.
  • Procedural generation
    • The game makes use of proprietary technology which generates content that feels designed by humans, not algorithms.
    • This technology can also create a near-infinite number of new lands, new places, new stories, and new challenges to discover.
  • Orchestral adaptive soundtrack
    • An intricate system allows the game’s music to be arranged reactively.
    • Experience the changes to the score at appropriate times.

A demo for Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer's Legacy is currently available but the offer ends May 9.
