Team Secret is proving why it remains the top Dota 2 team as the group was crowned champion in the recently concluded MDL Disneyland Paris Major. This is Secret's second championship in a major tournament. With the win, Secret brings home $350,000 and 4,950 DPC Points, which it doesn't really need right now as it has already qualified for The International 2019.

Team Secret won the Chongqing Major earlier this season. For the other two Majors, the team finished second in the Kuala Lumpur Major and fourth in DreamLeague Season 11. Secret's journey to the Paris Major was nothing short of dominating. During the Group Stage, the team swept both Team Empire and Chaos Esports Club to take the top spot. During the Playoff stage, Secret dropped just two games. The team won 2-1 against PSG.LGD, and then swept OG 2-0. Team Secret then defeated Evil Geniuses 2-1 to clinch a spot in the Grand Finals.

At the other end is Team Liquid, whose journey was just as exciting. Liquid did not have a good start for this season as the team failed to qualify for the KL Major. The team had a rather poor showing during the Chongqing Major, and was even eliminated in DreamLeague Season 11.

For the Paris Major, Liquid finished second in the Group Stage, earning a spot in the Upper Bracket. However, Liquid lost to EG 1-2 and dropped to the Lower Bracket. Liquid had its hands full, as the Lower Bracket also had many of the other top teams. Team Liquid appeared to slowly work its way up to the Grand Finals in a similar manner that it did back in The International 2017. The team beat paiN Gaming 2-0 and then Vici Gaming 2-1. Liquid played against OG and won 2-1, and the same result happened with its fight against Chinese powerhouse PSG.LGD. The tournament boiled down to a rematch with EG but there was no denying Liquid for the Grand Finals.

Like in TI7, Liquid took first blood and won the first game. Secret, however, returned the favor in the second game, especially with their Arc Warden pick. Secret continued to dominate through the rest of the matches, and won the Disneyland Paris Major.

Even with the loss, Liquid appears to have secured a coveted spot for The International 2019. The last Major for the season before TI9 is the EPICENTER Major scheduled from June 22 to June 30.
