After some time without any news, we finally have a release date for this generation’s Mario Maker game: Super Mario Maker 2.

This sequel to the original Super Mario Maker on the Wii U was originally announced this February during a Nintendo Direct. Mario Maker itself was released back in 2015, and quickly rose as one of the Wii U’s best titles. Nintendo managed to make a map maker that was actually used and enjoyed by its fans; years after its release, I still consider Super Mario Maker as the Mario game with almost endless replayability. The game allows you to design your very own platforming stages in the style of many Mario games, such as Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U.

Nintendo has since confirmed on its Twitter page that the highly anticipated sequel Super Mario Maker 2 will launch on June 28, 2019 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. While the announcement trailer has already said that the release will be sometime in June, this tweet gives out the definite date so that players around the world can start getting hyped for this newest Mario game.

There are notably no pre-order bonuses available for the game for its US release. The UK release, however, includes a bundle with a diorama set which costs £59.99 including a retail copy of the game. A second bundle includes a free carpenter’s pad and pencil set, which will help you immerse yourself making plans for your maps that you hope no one else will be able to complete. This also includes a retail copy of the game and is sold for £49.99. The Nintendo store also carries the diorama sets by themselves, which cost £19.99 apiece. This is a good choice for players who will get the digital copy but still want to obtain the diorama sets.

A special version of the game has also been announced in Japan, one which comes with a code for one free year on the Nintendo Online service, as well as a branded Nintendo Switch touch pen that you can use with the game. This will also be available to all pre-orders within Japan.

Super Mario Maker 2 releases this June 28, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
