Developer Undead Labs has deployed the latest patch for State of Decay 2. Update 27 wants you to mask up with the latest Halloween-themed items. It also provides the newest quality-of-life improvements and more.

Mask Up

According to the devs, three new Halloween masks will be added to your inventory if you load up your community between October 25 and November 1. Once done, you will receive the following:

  • Scarecrow Mask
  • Jack-O-Lantern Mask
  • Hockey Mask

Additionally, you can unlock some of the Halloween costumes from previous years. You can get the Swine and Bovine mask and outfit, for example, if you log in and play the game before November 1.

If you can spare some money, you can buy the Fearsome Footage bounty pack to get the Cannibal Mechanic mask and outfit and the Skeleton Hoodie outfit.

Lost Weapons

Have you played the game since Update 26 has been implemented? If so, have you noticed anything out of the ordinary? You’ve probably acquired some weapons that were not outlined in the previous patch notes. Well, that is because the developers have secretly added new weapons to the loot table.

If you are interested to know what they are, these are the weapons that were introduced last month:

  • M590 Sea and Sky Shotgun
  • Classic SKS Rifle
  • PPQ M2
  • USC Carbine
  • Blackhawk .45 Revolver
  • Gladius
  • Kanabo

Quality of Life Improvements

Update 27 not only introduced Halloween-themed items but also implemented many improvements.

First up, you can now put twice as many items into each slot of a vehicle’s inventory. This covers fuel bombs, toolkits, bullets, and so on. Secondly, a bug causing a newly-repaired vehicle to float into the air has been fixed.

Defeated Plague Heart husks will now appear on the map and will only disappear once you’ve looted them. Furthermore, hovering over the icons will provide you with information about what items can be scavenged.

Here are the other improvements in the update:

VEHICLES
  • The Screamer no longer breaks phantom versions of your car windows again and again, across multiple screams. The first time those windows break, they now stay broken
  • A missing passenger door will no longer cause an AI passenger to slither continuously back and forth between the front and rear seats, as fun as that was to watch
USER INTERFACE
  • Freaks that are integrated into hordes now show up separately on the mini-map alongside the horde icon, so you can clock incoming bloaters and ferals
  • Community save slots now display the name of the map where the community currently lives
CONTROLS
  • The Repair action at the Supply Locker is now consistent for weapons in your inventory and weapons in the locker. By default, this is Hold A on the controller, and Hold C with a keyboard
  • Characters can no longer leap from ladders, as we found that this was primarily done by accident, and from very high places
