After the trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story landed last Thursday a new fan theory began echoing through the halls of Star Wars dumb-fan-theory-dom. The rumor is implausible, silly and based in nothing, putting it right in line with most fan theories.

Rey’s parentage was one of the central mysteries in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story offered an easy solution: Rey must be Jyn Erso’s daughter!

In a new interview with MTV Daisy Ridley, who played Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and returns in 2017’s Star Wars: Episode 8 , tore up the fan theory and spit on it.

Not so, said Ridley, speaking with MTV, “I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mom.”

While it seems likely Rey will eventually turn out to have some sort of genetic connection to the Skywalkers (Executive Producer Kathleen Kennedy called the Star Wars Episode films “the Skywalker family saga”), Ridley emphasized that her parentage doesn’t really matter.

“I think the amazing thing about [Episode VII ] is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place,” Ridley said. “So to me, it’s funny that people think it’s so important because I don’t really think it is.”
