A new generation of Spider-Man is coming in 2017 Marvel

The Marvel-DC wars continue, as Variety has confirmed that Michael Keaton is in talks to play a villain in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, Spider-Man Homecoming. In case you forgot, Keaton previously starred in the 1989 Tim Burton version of Batman, which launched Keaton’s career into the mainstream. If he joins the cast, he’ll join the new Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in the revamped Spidey that is co-produced by Marvel.

Unfortunately, neither Marvel nor Sony have yet to comment on the news, but considering Keaton’s talent and experience in superhero movies, he’d certainly make for a fine choice. Let’s hope he trades sides and joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If and when that happens, we should find out the identity of the villain featuring in Homecoming.

In other castings news, Academy Award winning actress Marisa Tomei is on board to play Aunt May. Actor-singer-dancer Zendaya is also confirmed for a mystery role.

Though plot details remain completely under wraps, Spider-Man: Homecoming take us back to the origins and center on Peter Parker’s life in high school. This is the same exact route Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man took, but now that Marvel is back in control, most people (including me) don’t really care.

But before Spider-Man web-slings across theaters in his own solo flick, Holland will make his blockbuster debut in Captain America: Civil War. Early reviews indicate that Civil War is, well, just about the best Marvel movie ever - and Spider-Man is a large reason why.

That’s brilliant news for Spidey fans, Marvel fanboys and moviegoers all over the world. Captain America: Civil War is all but guaranteed to be a megahit, and Spider-Man will gain major exposure once again.

Captain America: Civil War arrives in theaters on May 6. Spider-Man arrives in 2017.
