SMITE: November 2 Update Nerfs Spectral Armor and Several Gods

The latest update for SMITE nerfs certain gods and their abilities. Furthermore, an item nerf is also implemented, which may help bring balance to the game.

According to the devs at High Rez Studios, the Spectral Armor has been the go-to item in mitigating critical damage you receive. Even if your enemy does not invest much in critical strikes, you will still feel the benefits the item provides.

Thus, they’ve decided to reduce the Spectral Armor’s passive crit damage reduction by 5% and its physical protection by five points. They hope that these changes would still make the item effective against crits, but as a direct counter and not the standard.

Ability Nerfs

Odin, Cthulhu, and Geb have received some sizable nerfs. Odin’s Ring of Spears ultimate has its cooldown increased from a flat 90 seconds to 110/105/100/95/90. In addition, the shield HP of his Raven Shout ability has been reduced.

The developers said that Odin has been the perfect choice to counter those who use the dive comp. The adjustments to Ring of Spears and Raven Shout will reduce the Allfather’s effectiveness a bit to give his enemies a chance to counter him.

Cthulhu has been seen as a tanky character, so the opposing team would have to focus on him, or he can leave the fight unscathed.

That said, his Sever ability’s base damage has been decreased to 100/150/200/250/300. The buff to max health provided by his Descend Into Madness has been reduced to 25%. These changes should help Cthulhu’s foes retain their sanity when facing him.

A god that was underperforming in previous patches, Geb has seen an increase in pick rate since his Cataclysm ultimate was buffed not long ago. With that, the patch significantly reduced the base damage of Cataclysm. Now at the max level, its damage went down from 630 to 550.
