Hi Rez Studios’ SMITE has received a new update. While it only implements balancing changes on certain Gods and items, they are important nevertheless.

Item Changes

The developers are thinking of nerfing a lot of starter items in a future patch, but in this update, they felt that tweaking the Vampiric Shroud is a good place to start. Its physical protection has been reduced to five. This adjustment, coupled with changes to some Gods, will hopefully favor Warriors in the future.

Jotunn’s Wrath was seen as a pretty good item. In fact, a lot of players are rushing to get this one. That said, while the devs are happy that more and more people are using it, they feel that its effectiveness in the early to mid-game is just a little too high. Although it is nerfed, its slight change will almost be negligible in the grand scheme of things.

Balance Changes

Some Gods have received adjustments as well. Serqet’s Last Breath has its base damage decreased, but its physical power scaling has been increased slightly to compensate.

For Raijin, his Thunder Crash no longer deals damage before he teleports, but will deal increased Thunder AOE damage when he lands.

Artio has been buffed considerably in previous updates, which resulted in her catapulting from not being picked at all into a top pick in the pro league. So, developers increased the cooldown of her Energy Surge one second.

Cerberus is deemed as the only counter to Artio in the solo lane and that is mainly due to its Ghastly Breath ability. Because of this, its Protections Debuff effect has been decreased per stack.

Lastly, Hel’s Inspire ability can replenish her minion’s health to almost full. Hence, its heal amount is decreased by 50% and its heal per tick is reduced.

Here are all of the changes in a nutshell:

  • Vampiric Shroud
    • Decreased Physical Protection from 10 to 5
  • Jotunn’s Wrath
    • Decreased Physical Power from 50 to 45
  • Transcendence
    • Decreased Physical Power from 45 to 40
  • Last Breath
    • Decreased Base Damage to 100/175/250/325/400
    • Increased Physical Power Scaling to 80%
  • Thunder Crash
    • No longer does damage on the “lightning” smaller AoE before he teleports
    • Increased Damage on Thunder AoE to 60/75/90/105/120 (+50% of your Magical Power)
      • Base added together, scaling cut by 10%
  • Energy Surge
    • Cooldown increased to 12 seconds
  • Ghastly Breath
    • Decreased Protections Debuff per stack to 5/7/9/11/13
      • (18/27/36/45/54 to 15/21/27/33/39 total)
  • Inspire
    • Minions Are now healed for 50% of the amount
      • (Decreased Heal Per Tick to 4/6/8/10/12 + 2.5% per tick)

SMITE 8.9 Bonus Update is now available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
