On Scandal Season 6, episode 2, which airs at 9 p.m. EST Thursday on ABC, the race for president continues as Olivia is hell bent on ensuring that Cyrus Beane is not inaugurated.

Season 6 opened last week with Francisco Vargas elected president of the United States. However, he was shot and soon after Mellie Grant conceded and died hours later. Episode 1 ended with current president Fitzgerald Grant selecting Cyrus Beane as the next president.

Olivia is certain that Cyrus, who was to be Francisco Vargas’ vice president, had him killed so he could become president. An episode 2 sneak peek shows Olivia presenting her evidence to Fitz and his chief of staff, Abby, but they don’t believe her.

Olivia’s team was able to uncover a phone call, which was erased from the FBI tip line, from a woman named Jennifer Fields, who claims Cyrus had Francisco Vargas killed. When Quinn and Charlie went to find the woman for questioning, they witness the cabin where she was staying explode and uncovered her body.

Another sneak peek shows Fitz order Cyrus and Mellie to work together amid Olivia’s tirade. Mellie is not excited about this development, largely because Fitz essentially promised her the presidency and then gave it to Cyrus instead. It remains to be seen what Mellie thinks of Olivia accusing Cyrus of ordering the president elect murdered.

Will Olivia be able to prove that Cyrus killed Francisco Vargas? We will find out in the upcoming Season 6 premiere episode, called “Hardball,” which is best viewed on television or live online through ABC Live.

Scandal Season 6 episode 2 premieres at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
