When Entertainment Weekly dropped their profiles of the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story cast of characters on Wednesday, there was one notable omission: the name and identity of Forest Whitaker’s character. EW has now revealed Whitaker plays Saw Gerrera, a character from The Clone Wars animated series.

Saw led Onderon rebel militias alongside his sister Steela, first against the separatist Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars and later against the Galactic Empire. He appeared in four episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a freedom fighter who at one time fought and trained with Anakin Skywalker and his padawan, Ahsoka Tano.

Yep, Gerrera and Darth Vader have met before. It will be interesting to see if that comes up in Rogue One.

“Consider him kind of a battered veteran who leads a band of Rebel extremists,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told EW. “He’s on the fringe of the Rebel Alliance. Even [they] are a little concerned about him.”

While Gerrera helps out the team in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, he fights for his own causes and doesn’t consider himself a part of the Rebel Alliance.
