Microsoft and ASUS ROG have massive plans for the ROG Xbox Ally handheld, and they have unveiled the latest feature for the console with the arrival of the default game profiles preview.
ROG Xbox Ally Game Profiles to Help Optimize Performance
Microsoft's Xbox has shared a new update on the ROG Xbox Ally device more than a month after it was released, and it now offers a preview of the "default game profiles" available on the console.
The new game profiles sound similar to when players use macro or turbo controller profiles for a specific game, but instead of setting up controls, Microsoft and ASUS ROG focused on game optimization.
Instead of having to configure a specific title to be played on the ROG Xbox Ally devices, a default game profile would automatically balance it for users upon its launch. The focus of default game profiles would be to deliver a balanced frame rate and power consumption for as many as 40 games.
Some of the titles that are compatible with the feature are "Fortnite," "Hollow Knight: Silksong," "Gears of War: Reloaded," and more.
According to Microsoft, they are working on expanding the list in the future, with more titles to be added and given their specific default game profile.
While the default game profile will focus on a balanced gaming experience, it will provide caps for frame rate and power consumption depending on the title and will not be the same for various games.
ROG Xbox Ally: Extended Battery Life via Game Profile
The ROG Xbox Ally remains as one of the top handheld gaming consoles at present. However, it is known that ASUS ROG's previous handheld consoles have had their fair share of battery problems, particularly as they boast of powerful performance at the expense of their power consumption.
With this new default game profiles for the ROG Xbox Ally, users could expect an extended battery life for their handhelds but also enjoy optimal performance on the likes of frame rate, graphics, and more.
According to Microsoft, the default game profiles would only apply when users are using the console on battery and not when it is plugged in.
The company said that if a game falls from its recommended FPS, it would boost its power consumption to achieve smoother gameplay. On the other hand, if a game goes over its optimized performance, it would then limit the FPS and resort to battery saving measures to help extend the gameplay hours.
