The new limited-time mode for Rocket League is now live. Knockout Bash is a free-for-all battle royale with the last player standing declared as the winner. It's available from April 27 to May 10.

The new LTM arrives in the game courtesy of Patch v2.14. Before we look into what this new LTM is all about, here are some of the bug fixes introduced:

  • After completing a match and returning to the main menu, fixed a bug preventing the game client from saving the previous selection for re-queue.
  • Fixed a UI bug preventing “Competitive” from appearing above the scoreboard when playing multiple consecutive Competitive matches.
  • Fixed a bug preventing access to the Change Mode/Match menu while watching a Replay.
  • Fixed a bug preventing chat during trading.
  • Dingo Engine Audio volume level has been fixed.
  • Fixed a bug with parental control preventing some players from seeing the "Allow All" in-game text chat option.

Go for the Knockout

In this new LTM, there won’t be any teams but instead, have eight players fight in free-for-all action. Like any battle royale game, there’s a safe zone which in this case is the translucent dome that surrounds the arena. Players knocked out of the safe zone need to return within 10 seconds or they’re considered as KO’d. It goes without saying that the safe zone shrinks over time.

However, after six minutes into the match will trigger a Sudden KO. When this happens, each Attack or Throw is at maximum power. In addition, being knocked out of the safe zone is an instant KO. Speaking of KO, Knockout doesn’t allow for unlimited respawns. Instead, a player who's been KO’d three times is out of the match.

For the actual gameplay, there are three main moves considered as the core gameplay:

  • Attack
    • Dodging into opponents does a lot more than just bumping them.
    • A well-placed Attack sends opponents flying.
    • The faster the players are going, the harder they'll hit.
  • Block
    • Blocking reflects Attacks back at the opponent.
    • This only works with proper timing otherwise the block fails.
    • When this happens, it leaves a player wide open to an Attack.
  • Grab
    • Hold the Grab button and dodge into an opponent to Grab them.
    • Dodge again to throw them across the Arena.
