Rainbow Six Siege Operation Burnt Horizon: New Outback Map Revealed

Rainbow Six Siege teased the beginning of Year 4 with an Australian-themed update last week, and today has revealed information about the new map called Outback. The new map is modeled after a rest stop out in the middle of the Australian desert.

The above video gives a quick look at the new Outback map. Although no fighting is seen in the clip, there are some key chokepoints players will fight over. Those narrow hallways look especially dangerous. The level is said to be inspired by two fan-favorite maps: Oregon and Clubhouse.

“We divided the map into three distinct sections – the Garage, the Motel, and the Restaurant – and put a lot of effort into making sure each section is recognisable, even from far away,” Assistant Level Designer Jacques Wong explained in the reveal post on the Rainbow Six Siege website. “There are specific colors for each section, and we used lighting and geometry to direct the player’s gaze to where they need to go.”

To emphasize the impact of player decision-making, the Rainbow Six Siege team created a limited number of doors between each section. “Roamers can still create new paths by destroying walls, and there’s always the option of changing floors as a flanking strategy,” Wong added in the post. “It’s a medium-sized map, so players won’t need to go far to find alternative routes.”

As for information about the two new Operatives included in Operation Burnt Horizon, Ubisoft hasn’t said anything yet. It’s possible we’ll get another early reveal like with the map, but it’s more likely the full details of the Operatives will be held until the reveal live stream on February 17. The reveal stream can be found on the Rainbow Six Siege Twitch channel. A specific time for the event hasn’t been announced yet.

Rainbow Six Siege is available now for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Operation Burnt Horizon represents the first season of Year 4 content for the tactical shooter.
