Puzzle Quest 3, the puzzle RPG developed by Infinity Plus Two, has received a new patch recently that you definitely need to check out. Update 1.5 introduces a new way to play the game: Action Points!

Before this patch went live, Puzzle Quest 3 was only playable with a timer, which put you under constant pressure to move as quickly as you could to avoid wasting your turn.

With Action Points (AP), you can take your time to plan your moves accordingly. Once the game is updated to the latest version, it will default to Action Points as the main mode of play. Do not worry, you can still change it back to Timer Mode in the general tab of the settings menu.

Now, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, the number of AP you have is based on your chosen hero’s Speed stat. If your hero has 100 speed, for example, you’ll begin with three AP.

Second, you’ll get additional AP if you manage to reach 150, 225, 325, 450, and 600 speed. And third, each move that you make costs an action point. This implies that although you’re not pressured by time, your moves are limited by the number of AP that you have.

This patch also introduces the new Lightbringer Set. You can learn more about the set pieces below:

  • Lightbringer's Blade (Weapon)
    • On matching this item’s Gem color, there is a 20 to 50% chance to create 2 Gems of this item’s Gem color.
  • Lightbringer's Tabard (Body)
    • When you match skulls, there is a 4 to 10% chance to gain Haste for 2 turns.
  • Lightbringer's Leggings (Legs)
    • At the start of my turn, if I have Haste, gain 1 to 2.5% Armor and Resistance.
  • Lightbringer's Treads (Boots)
    • If there are 11-8 Yellow Gems on the board, gain +50 Speed.
  • Lightbringer's Protector (Shield)
    • When taking damage, there is a 5 to 20% chance to Blind the Enemy for 2 turns.
  • Lightbringer's Symbol (Necklace)
    • Add +0.6 to 1.5% to all Masteries for each Yellow Gem on the board.
