After I busted Pokémon Go myths last week, I decided to debunk a few more. These are more for the average player; things you might have assumed about the game but aren’t actually true. Players have been digging around the source code for the game, and are actually starting to figure out how things work.

Without any further delay, here are six more Pokémon Go myths busted:

  • Incense Attracts Pokémon Regardless Of How You Move- When I first started playing, I used all of my Incenses while in bed. Turns out I totally wasted them. Omnialord on reddit posted the source code for Pokémon Go Incenses, which revealed that you actually get more Pokémon while moving. While standing still, an Incense spawns a pocket monster once every five minutes, but when you move you encounter a Pokémon every minute (for every 200 meters you travel).

  • Never Miss A Pokeball Again- I am a terrible Pokeball thrower, so when I found this video showing me how I could never miss , I was a bit skeptical. Turns out, on the first pokeball you throw, if you turn off AR and do it while the Pokémon is zoomed in, you will never miss. That doesn't mean the Pokémon will be caught, sometimes you need a Great Ball or a Berry to charm the beast.

  • Vaporeon Is The Strongest Pokémon In The Game- You can argue that Mewtwo technically has the highest base stats, and Lapras can have the highest CP, but in terms of sheer firepower nobody beats water Eevee. According to this list by Silph Road, Vaporeon has the highest damage output of any Pokémon in the game.

  • Mew Is Catchable, He’s Just Really Rare- I know we all want to relive our Pokémon Snap fantasies, but Mew is nowhere in the game yet. Nintendo News thought they broke the story of the century by showing someone who caught a Mew, when in reality they were hoaxed. The source file shows that all of the Legendaries are in the files, but none have been unlocked for capture and will be available at a later date.

  • McDonald’s and GameStop Will Be Gyms- In the source code of the game, there’s a file dedicated to “partnerships” that can be manipulated. Gizmodo reports that McDonald’s will be taking use of this partnership and turning all of their restaurants into gyms or Pokestops. GameStop will also be turning a select few of their stores into Pokestops according to an email they released yesterday. Hopefully, finding Pokestops in more rural areas will be easier now.

  • Leaves Rustle When Pokémon Are Nearby- Those random floating leaves you see on the map actually mean something. When those leaves rustle, a Pokémon is nearby and will pop up soon. How soon is anyone’s guess, nobody has been able to quantify an actual time period yet.

Are there any myths (Farfetch’d is still not in the game) you’d like us to go over? Tell us in the comments!
